It’s not exactly brand new news that quirky and currently preggers singer and actress Zooey Deschanel sold her celeb-pedigreed pad in the Cahuenga Pass area of the Hollywood Hills for $2.33 million. (Real estate market naysayers and bubble watchers will note the sale price was $135,000 above its $2.195 million asking price.) However, we first heard over the weekend from inexhaustible real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak and later confirmed with property records that the previously unidentified buyer is Matt Helders, a fella in his late 20s whom avid indie-rock music aficionados will recognize as a DJ and drummer from the blazingly popular, three-time Grammy nominated alt-rock band Arctic Monkeys.
SELLER: Zooey Deschanel
BUYER: Matt Helders
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $2.33 million
SIZE: 2,957 square feet, 3+ bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms
Miss Deschanel, a Tinseltown scion, She & Him singer and three-time Golden Globe nominee, purchased the gated micro-compound property in September 2009 for $1.65 million from much in-demand twice Oscar-nominated actor Mark Ruffalo, and listing details from its most recent sale show the half-acre spread includes a single story main house that dates back to the mid 1930s and is currently configured with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in 2,957 square feet. A separate guest cottage adds another bathroom. The hardwood floors in the step-down living room and adjoining dining room — both of which have vaulted exposed wood ceilings — switch to a boldly graphic blue and white quatrefoil pattern tile in the kitchen that was done over for Miss Deschanel with sapphire blue painted wood cabinetry, slab marble countertops, a built-in dining banquette and an imported range that costs about as much as a used Mercedes. Other features include a sunroom with terra-cotta tile floors and a den with painted paneling, catty-corner fireplace, built-in bookshelves and a window-wrapped reading nook with built-in bench seating.
The sitcom star (“New Girl”) and singer — she’s the “She” in the indie-duo She & Him —decamped the Hollywood Hills with her handsome baby daddy/fiancé, producer Jacob Pechenik, to a newly constructed $4.5 million residence in a pricey if slightly less than prime areas of Manhattan Beach. And, so we hear, this isn’t Mister Heller’s first million dollar-plus property purchase in Los Angeles; in 2012 he shelled out $1.13 million via corporate entity for a post and beam built house in the Beachwood Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills that property records show was purchased from Vivian Kubrick, the daughter of late, great filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.
