YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Celebrity chef and restaurant chain entrepreneur Wolfgang Puck and high-end handbag designer Gelila Assefa Puck must have fully settled into their $14 million mansion in Bel Air — a bit more on that in a minute — because they officially put their former five bedroom and 6.5 bathroom mini-manse in the ever-more popular Flats of Beverly Hills up on the chopping block with an asking price of $8.495 million. Those blessed with sharp memories may recall the current pricetag is identical to the asking price when the gated and high-hedged property ever so briefly popped up on the open market in early June 2014.
The freshly remodeled two-story residence, which current listing details show encompasses 6,025 square feet and describe as a “chic Mediterranean Villa,” opens to a “grand” entry with high-gloss ebony wood floors and an elegantly curved wrought iron railed staircase. A spacious, step-down formal living room has a vaulted and beamed ceiling; an imposing, fancifully carved antique stone mantelpiece; and, at one end of the room, a huge arched window and at the other a projection screen that rolls down out of the ceiling in front of a full wall of open shelving to transform the space into a screening room. The formal dining room overlooks the courtyard garden at the front of the house while a library/office with floating inset bookshelves opens through ceiling-height French doors to a trellis-shaded terrace that looks out over the backyard. Unquestionably roomy and luxuriously well equipped with marble countertops, commercial-style appliances, glass-fronted cabinetry and a charming window bench, the kitchen seems a little, well, generic for one of the world’s most renowned chefs, and we wonder if this kitchen was installed since the Pucks vacated the premises. (Mister Pritzker, in case any of y’all didn’t know, moved to a modern, airport-scaled mega-mansion he custom built just across the ravine from the mansion he sold to Mister and Missus Puck.)
