YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: The glassily delicious and spectacularly sited Los Angeles home of late horror film heavyweight Wes Craven has come up for sale with an asking price of $3.295 million. The 1958 post and beam built residence, once owned by Steve McQueen, was purchased by the multi-talented veteran show business hyphenate and genre-defining filmmaker in March 1992 for $1.2 million.
Craven, who died at 76 in August 2015 after a career that spanned four decades, was the mastermind behind the 1980s cult-favorite horror franchise “A Nightmare on Elm Street” that spawned the truly horrific antihero Freddy Krueger. He subsequently directed all four of the slightly campy but gory and profoundly popular “Scream” movies that combined have hauled in more than $600 million in worldwide box office receipts and, at the time of his death, he was one of the nearly dozen executive producers of the small screen spin-off “Scream: The TV Series,” set to make its sophomore season premiere late next month.
The low-slung hilltop home is firmly rooted atop a slim, celeb-sprinkled ridgeline high in the hills above Hollywood and possessed of the very sorts of panoramic city lights views from which untold numbers of L.A.’s most dazzling real estate dreams are woven. There are two bedrooms and three bathrooms in the main part of the 3,594-square-foot residence, per listing details, along with two offices liberally lined with floor-to-ceiling open shelves and what listings describe as “completely separate guest quarters w/ private entrance.” A spacious, open living space accommodates a living room with fireplace, formal and informal dining areas, and a sky-lit kitchen with triple-wide center island and adjoining den.
