SELLERS: Vince Vaughn and Kyla Weber
LOCATION: La Cañada-Flintridge, Calif.
PRICE: $5.299 million
SIZE: 5,563 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Vince Vaughn is well known among property gossips and avid celebrity real estate watchers for his often in flux portfolio of multimillion-dollar residences, and one of the five homes he currently owns, a cosmetically refreshed Colonial in the suburban L.A. community of La Cañada-Flintridge, has popped up with an asking price of $5.299 million. Property records show Mister Vaughn, a longtime staple of dorky comedies, sappy rom-coms and the co-star of the second, infernally vexatious and recently wrapped season of “True Detective,” and his Canadian real estate agent wife, Kyla Weber, purchased the property just over two years ago, in April 2013, for $3,925 million.
Current listing details show the gated, 0.74-acre mini-estate includes a five bedroom and 5.5 bathroom Colonial that was built in 2000 and measures in at an ample 5,563 square feet. A double-height foyer that’s sure to impress guests and the pizza delivery man, too, has an elegantly curved and tightly spindled staircase and dark chocolate wood floors that continue in to the flanking formal living and dining rooms, the latter with a marble-faced fireplace and the former with a 40-pane picture window that looks out over a grassy front yard shaded by mature specimen trees. A paneled office/library adjoins the formal living room and a convenient butler’s pantry with exterior entrance links the dining room to a cook-friendly center-island kitchen outfitted with thick slab marble countertops, chic and decoratively trendy dove grey subway tile backsplashes and the customary collection of high-quality appliances expected of a $5 million abode. A dining nook set in to a deep bay with backyard view has a built-in desk area and opens to an adjoining family room that features a television surmounted fireplace between built-in media storage cabinets and a wide trio of French doors that open to a covered brick patio. An en suite main floor bedroom is well suited for live-in staff or extended-stay houseguests while upstairs, three more en suite family bedrooms are joined by a master suite complete with fitted walk-in closet and a marble-floored bathroom decked out with double-sink vanity, soaking tub for two and an oversized, glassed-in steam shower. Backyard amenities include a saltwater swimming pool, a broad swathe of lawn, a children’s play area with jungle gym, and, at the very rear of the property, a chain link fence girdled sport court.
The La Cañada-Flintridge area, about 15 miles due north of Downtown L.A. and a 20-minute drive to the studios in Burbank, is historically well-to-do, with well-regarded public schools, but it’s nonetheless never been much of a magnet for celebs. However, right next door to the Vaughns’ professionally staged and clearly unoccupied spread is the home of occasionally controversial comedian and podcast superstar Adam Carolla, who listed the single-story Spanish hacienda in late July at $3.495 million and, according to digital listings, already has the house in escrow to be sold at an unknown price to an unknown buyer.
Over the last few years Mister Vaughn’s merry-go-round real estate activities have made him a mainstay of the property gossip columns, and our research reveals the La Cañada-Flintridge residence is hardly the only piece of Mister Vaughn’s real estate pie he’d like to shed. In downtown Chicago he continues to own a titanic, 12,000-square-foot, multi-terraced triplex penthouse atop the Palmolive Building that’s he’s had on and off the market for years. The five bedroom and six bathroom suburban macmansion-sized aerie, which includes a paneled movie theater, a poker room, an indoor barbecue grill and heavy-duty monthly common charges in excess of $12,000 — was originally floated as a whisper listing in 2011 at a much rumored and in hindsight vastly optimistic price of $24.7 million; it is currently priced at almost half that amount, $13.9 million. The Vaughns also own a 4,063-square-foot, townhouse-type residence in Chicago’s upscale River North area they’ve put up for rent several times over the last handful of years at prices as high as $9,500 per month and is also, as it turns out, for sale on the open market at $1.475 million. The property-mad couple continues to own a 7,308-square-foot Craftsman-inspired home in Manhattan Beach, Calif., that was acquired in February 2014 for $6.447 million from former USC football coast Lane Kiffin and, just months after snapping up the Manhattan Beach mini-manse, Mister and Missus Vaughn coughed up another $2.375 million for a gated house in the Nichols Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills they bought from stunning and stylish actress Kate Bosworth and her showbiz hyphenate husband Michael Polish.
