Uma Thurman got lucky with the recent sale of a duplex apartment in lower Manhattan’s low-key but high-cost Gramercy Park neighborhood that, after about six months on the open market, sold for a tetch more than $6.6 million. That’s considerably above its $6.25 million asking price and nearly $2.5 million more than she paid for the three-unit combo in two separate transactions — the first in 2006 and the second in 2012 — that totaled $4.2 million. Listing details show the three units together come to about 2,800 square feet with five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
A graciously proportioned foyer and stair hall leads to a 24-foot-long corner living room with herringbone-pattern oak floors and a neoclassical-style white marble fireplace. The dining room is open to a sleekly appointed minimalist kitchen with glossily lacquered snow-white cabinets, a high-end mix of marble and walnut countertops, and a double-wide central peninsula. Floor plans show the apartment is configured with three guest/family bedrooms and two master bedrooms, one of them on the main floor with a spacious walk-in closet and compact Jack ’n’ Jill style bathroom shared with another bedroom.
Thurman owned another two-unit combination duplex in the same building she once shared with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, and sold in October 2006 for $8.6 million. In 2013, she purchased her current Manhattan residence, an elegantly proportioned 13-room sprawler at the tony River House in the Sutton Place neighborhood, which she snatched up for $10 million from late romance novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford. The “Kill Bill” star, who will appear in the not-yet-released jewel-heist comedy “The Brits Are Coming,” also maintains a semi-remote, 100-plus-acre country getaway just outside Woodstock, N.Y.
