UPDATE (06-05-15): We now have it on good authority that contrary to the myriad of published reports — including below — the Osbournes quietly backed out of the purchase of the Ladd mansion in Beverly Hills and that the property is currently in escrow with another buyer of unknown identity. Though we always strive for accuracy, wires sometimes get crossed in the murky world of celebrity real estate reportage.
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Just a week after veteran entertainment industry VIP Alan Ladd, Junior’s English Country style mini-mansion in Beverly Hills hit the open market with an asking price of $9.995 million, the deluxely dressed and carefully maintained property was put into escrow, so this property gossip first heard from real estate insider Montgomery Motormouth, for an unknown amount by peripatetic showbizzers Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
The Osbournes soon-to-be new abode, behind gates on a prime, tree-lined block just south of Sunset Boulevard in the convenient and increasingly pricey “Flats” of Beverly Hills, has five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms in 5,680-square-feet, according to online marketing materials. A boxwood lined semi-circular drive sweeps past the front of the house and leads to porte-cochère that extends off the side of the house and inside there’s a central foyer with elegantly curved staircase, roomy formal living and dining rooms, a paneled den/library with walk-in wet bar, and a cook-friendly center island kitchen with antiqued cabinetry and high-grade commercial-style appliances. The .41-acre property also includes a two-story guesthouse with its own alley-accessible garage, effusive boxwood trimmed rose gardens, a courtyard terrace and a lagoon-style swimming pool.
Since they sold the mock-Med Beverly Hills mansion they made internationally famous on their early- to mid-2000s reality program — they sold the gated estate in 2007 for $11.5 million to Christina Aguilera who, in turn, unloaded it in 2013 for the same price to Chinese actress Miao Pu — the itchy-footed Osbournes have been shacked up in a series of multi-million dollar residences, some they owned and some they rented. They first packed up their extensive collection of decorative crucifixes and decamped the 90210 for the horsey and celeb-approved Hidden Hills community out near Calabasas where they paid $12,388,500 million for an almost 11,000-square-foot mansion. They had the whole place worked over but good and crazy by flamboyant decorator Martyn Lawrence Bullard, had it photographed for Architectural Digest and put it back up for sale in June 2011 at $12.999 million. Alas, they didn’t manage to dump the estate until in March 2013 for $11.5 million — a punishing, near million-dollar loss not counting improvements, upkeep and carrying costs — to Jessica Simpson and her retired tight end husband Eric Johnson.
While holed up out in Hidden Hills the Osbournes rented an 18th floor condo at the celebrity-stacked Sierra Towers complex in West Hollywood that they also had festooned by Mister Bullard. It wasn’t too long, however, before they sought bigger digs and, sometime in 2012, leased a lovely hacienda-style casa in the Flats of Beverly Hills that was then owned by one of the Platinum Triangle’s most successful real estate brokers. We’re not sure if Mister Bullard gave their BevHills rental a decorative do-over but it was also around this time, after a long and well-documented real estate slog, the Osbournes finally sold their Bullard-decorated beach house on Malibu’s La Costa Beach for $7.925 million. The buyer, per property records, was a corporate entity linked to Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer/remixer Dr. Luke who, oddly enough, Missus Osbourne took to public task last year after he made what she felt were insensitive comments towards pop star Kesha. (Dr. Luke and Kesha, long time professional compadres, are currently suing each other for a myriad of salacious allegations but that’s another story for another place.) The Osbournes didn’t remain ensconced in their BevHills rental very long as the nearly 5,600-square-foot house was sold in June 2013 to nonagenarian media tycoon Sumner Redstone’s — let’s be honest, children — preposterously younger lady-friend Sydney Holland who flipped it 3.5 months later at a small profit and bought a celeb-pedigreed house in a celeb-saturated enclave in Beverly Hills that she soon sold, in October 2014, for $8.225 million to young, silver screen supernova Jennifer Lawrence.
Just over a year ago, the Osbournes, who maintain an estate on the distant outskirts of London near Jordans and Chalfont St. Giles that was heavily damaged in torrential rain storms last year, made a covert, $4 million off-market deal for a low floor apartment back at Sierra Towers. However, once Mister Bullard glammifys their new mini-manse in Beverly Hills — and we just assume without direct knowledge he’ll be the dandified fella hired at great expense for that task — the fate of the West Hollywood condo is unknown.
Both of the Osbournes’ daughters, often lavender tressed television personality Kelly and publicity shunning Aimee, recently sold neighboring homes just above the Sunset Strip for a combined $4.25 million — property records suggest both residences were, technically, owned by Momma and Daddy Osbourne — and their son, Jack, moved with his young family to a newly built house in Studio City purchased last summer for $3.2 million.
While Ozzy mostly rests on his well-earned rock star laurels Missus Osbourne currently co-hosts the daytime gabfest “The Talk” and occasionally pops up as the voice for Mama Hook on the animated series “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.” In April it was announced the Osbourne family’s eponymous, Emmy-winning reality program (“The Osbournes”) will not be reprised for a 6-8 episode run as Missus Osbourne publicly hoped it would be.
