Recent years have brought to Hollywood a new wave of young and adventurous movie producers, many of whom happen to be scions to super-sized fortunes. Among these fortunately born neophyte power players are Larry Ellison’s children Megan and David Ellison, Molly Smith — her father Fred founded FedEx — and siblings William Johnson and Sarah Johnson Redlich, heirs to the vast Franklin Templeton fortune. And what, children, does a freshly minted power player in Tinseltown need? That’s right, an A-lister home in one of L.A.’s more illustrious zip codes.
So, as per ever reliable celebrity real estate bean spiller Lucy Spillerguts, out went New York-based thirtysomething-year-old Teddy Schwarzman — founder of up-and-coming Black Bear Pictures, and the son of bazillionaire financier Stephen Schwarzman — on a house hunt that ended with the $17.85 million purchase of the Mandeville Canyon estate of Oscar-nominated producer David Hoberman (“Monk,” “The Fighter”).
Listing details show the 9,198-square-foot, elevator-equipped two-story mansion was newly built in 2005 behind high gates on three separate but adjoining parcels that total 1.79 acres. A deep veranda runs the full width of the front of the house, and inside, elegantly proportioned formal living and dining rooms open off a de rigueur double-height entry. Family quarters include a kitchen slathered in marble and an adjoining breakfast room, as well as a family room and small den. There are, per listing details, a total of six bedrooms and eight full and three half bathrooms that include a deluxe master suite, a three-bedroom children’s wing, upstairs and downstairs guest suites and a discreet staff bedroom. Stone terraces give way to a broad sweep of lawn and a 1,500-square-foot detached structure between the swimming pool and tennis court that houses a professional screening room, dual bathrooms and changing rooms. Other high-profile homeowners in the ’hood include Gwyneth Paltrow, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Oliver Stone.
