YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was not even a year ago that Steven Spielberg made a $26 million off-market deal to sell his sprawling Arts & Crafts-inspired compound along Malibu’s rapidly eroding and, hence, ironically named Broad Beach. The buyer of the 1.41-acre estate appears in property records as a corporate concern that real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak and other sources swear up and down is controlled by Beverly Hill-based commercial real estate baron Steve Gozini. Alas, it seems Mister Gozini caught a classic case of The Real Estate Fickle — or simply sees an opportunity to make a quick and easy fortune — and flipped the property back up for sale at $35 million. It does not take a mathematics savant or even a bejeweled abacus to see the current asking price is a mouth-drying $9 million more than the property sold for just eight months ago. For the less commitment-oriented consumer, online marketing materials show the property is also available as a rental at $150,000 per month.
The shingle-sided residence’s open-plan main living space has peg-and-groove hardwood floors and offers a media lounge with TV-surmounted fireplace, a dining area set into a windowed bay, and an open kitchen with humble, bead board-faced cabinets, name-brand stainless steel appliances, and an industrial-sized, wig snatcher of a pot rack over the center work island that incorporates a multi-stool snack counter. Unsurprisingly, given the home’s previous owner, the property has a spacious home theater with state-of-the-art projection equipment and tiered seating in cozy couches. There are a total of seven bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms in the main residence, including a vast, second floor master suite that encompasses a private library with fireplace, a separate bedroom with second fireplace, massage room, bathroom large enough to accommodate a cushioned armchair and ottoman next to a claw-footed tub, and a meandering terrace that stretches the full width of the residence and provides panoramic views up and down the high-priced coastline. A separate, self-contained guesthouse adds two more bedrooms, a flexi-use bonus space might easily be used as an art studio or gym, and there is garaging for three cars plus several more highly desirable off-street parking spots.
Our research indicates Mister Gozini already owns an aggressively contemporary beachfront mansion in Malibu — acquired a few years ago for nearly $20 million in another secret, off-market deal and also put up for lease last year at $150,000 per month — along with an almost 11,000-square-foot mansion just down the block from O.J. Simpson’s former estate in a particularly posh part of Brentwood.
