Hollywood heavyweight turned high-end house-flipping interior designer Sandy Gallin hasn’t yet sold his romantically picturesque compound along a particularly posh lane in East Hampton, N.Y. The price is $22.5 million, after first coming to market nearly four years ago at $24.5 million. Gallin, who has outfitted homes for Jeffrey Katzenberg, Jimmy Iovine, and Irving Azoff, bought the property in the summer of 2011 for $5.1 million and spent more than a year, and, unquestionably, a considerable fortune, on a comprehensive renovation and expansion.
The comfortably unpretentious, yet unapologetically luxurious, spread spans more than two acres, anchored by a rambling, shingled farmhouse of about 6,500 square feet. Living and entertaining spaces are done up in Gallin’s signature style — sumptuous slip-covered sofas, reclaimed materials such as antique floorboards, and artwork hung in rigid grids — and include ample living and dining rooms, a cook’s kitchen with slab-marble countertops and, of course, a state-of-the-art screening room. There are four en suite bedrooms in the main house and a total of nine full and two half bathrooms divided between the main house, guest cottage, pool house, garage, and a barn converted to a gym. Lush and idyllic grounds provide a pergola-shaded terrace with fireplace, an al fresco dining patio, apple orchards, flowering gardens, and a stone-edged swimming pool set into a thick carpet of emerald-green lawn.
Gallin previously owned a 14-acre estate in Bridgehampton that he first listed in 2009 for $32 million, but didn’t sell until 2011 for $17.5 million. His last project in Los Angeles, at least as far as this property gossip knows, was a Bel-Air mansion, long owned by late actress Jane Wyatt, which he picked up in 2007 for $7 million. He renovated and expanded the property, put it up for sale in 2009 at $32 million, and finally sold it in 2011 for $21 million to fashion magnate Serge Azria.
