YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Since he just flipped a stately Bel Air mansion on the market for $33.5 million just weeks after he bought it for $25 million, we thought it might be fun — or something — for the children to have a look-see at the lavish and far flashier Las Vegas estate that Qualcomm heir and hospitality industry mogul Sam Nazarian also has up for sale on the open market with a $17.5 million pricetag. Property records and reports from the time indicate Mister Nazarian acquired the contemporary spread in September 2012 for $8.35 million, a sale price that suggests the restaurant, hotel and nightclub impresario thinks — or hopes — his big ol’ Sin City manse has more than doubled in value in less than three years.
Set on 1.65 mostly landscaped acres in a triple-gated section of the swanky Ridges development at the very western edge of the city, the operatically composed residence — a series of arch-roofed volumes held aloft by muscular stacked stone columns and linked by impressive expanses of glass — measures in at a considerable but not quite mega 14,464 dramatically voluminous square feet.
A circular drive orbits hotel-style around a snazzy fire and water feature as it passes under an also hotel-like porte-cochère. A solid glass door opens all but directly into a capacious hotel lobby-like double-height living room with head of views of the glittering lights of world-famous Strip in the eastern distance. Mister Nazarian’s mansion is essentially across the street from a similarly sized mansion owned by athletic eyewear tycoon, digital movie camera entrepreneur and well-known real estate baller Jim Jannard, and other notable homeowners in the fancy-pants golf course community include race car driver Patrick Carpentier, master illusionist David Copperfield as well as his fellow magician and headline entertainer Penn Jillette, who only just recently purchased his modern manse for $3.3 million.
