Two separate snitches swear, and property records certainly suggest, it was super-producer Roy Lee (“The Departed,” “The Lego Movie”) who shelled out close to $2.5 million for a brand-spanking new, spec-built, five-bedroom and 5.5-bathroom contemporary on a briskly gentrifying block in the up-and-coming border ’hood between Hollywood and its ritzier neighbor to the south, Hancock Park. The approximately 4,300-square-foot abode, composed of a tan stucco central core framed by angled extrusions clad in horizontally applied wood planks, is unquestionably luxurious, finished with premium materials, and equipped with a myriad of high-tech features such as a comprehensive home automation system and extensive, six-camera security system. It is also, inside and out, terribly similar to dozens of other ultra-modern spec houses going up like dandelions and selling like hotcakes all over this part of town. Open-plan indoor living spaces have airy 11-foot ceilings and enormous glass panels that slip into the walls to effortlessly merge with outdoor areas that include a covered dining terrace and courtyard-like backyard with plunge-sized pool. All four of the guest bedrooms have private bathrooms and direct access to outdoor space while the master suite offers a huge walk-in closet and sleek bathroom with glass sliders to a private terrace with backyard overlook.
Property records we peeped at indicate the wildly prolific producer — he has well over a dozen projects in various stages of production, including a handful of horror films and a trio of sequels to “The Lego Movie” — continues to own an unassuming residence in West Hollywood purchased in early 2005 for just under $1.3 million.
