A beachfront house owned by latenight television talk show producer Robert “Morty” Morton, on Malibu’s celeb-lined La Costa Beach, has come up for sale with a $9 million asking price. The Emmy-winning producer whose long list of credits include “Late Night With David Letterman,” “The Wayne Brady Show,” and “Lopez Tonight,” purchased the 2,645-square-foot beach house, per property records, in the fall of 1999 for $2.2 million from prolific Emmy-nominated producer Brad Krevoy.
The two-story Mediterranean residence, originally built in 1930 but since completely updated, has a roomy, Mexican paver-tiled combination living and dining room with chunky, exposed wood beams across the ceiling, a fireplace flanked by built-in bench seating and two sets of French doors that lead out to a deep, ocean-side deck with multimillion-dollar views up and down the coastline. The residence’s four bedrooms and four bathrooms include an en suite staff bedroom, an office/den and the second floor master suite with fireplace, private patio and spa-style bathroom with head-on ocean view.
La Costa Beach may be less internationally renowned than its glittery Western neighbor, Carbon Beach, where billionaires like David Geffen and Larry Ellison each own multiple homes, but the sandy stretch of beach has certainly has never lacked for high-profile entertainment industry homeowners. Charlize Theron bought a house from Steven Weber that she, in turn, sold to Ryan Murphy and, after first listing it at $16 million, David Spade sold his place in 2013 for $10.2 million to Nicole Avant, the former U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas, and Netflix exec Ted Sarandos.
