SELLER: Rob Morrow
LOCATION: Santa Monica, CA
PRICE: $4,500,000
SIZE: 5,126 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It took nearly a year and he had to come way way waaay down off his pie-in-the-sky original asking price of $7.2 million but actor and director Rob Morrow has finally sold his triple-story contemporary in the Rustic Canyon area of Santa Monica for $4.5 million. The former “Numb3rs” star who currently holds down recurring role the Showtime series “Billions” and portrayed defense attorney Barry Scheck in the Emmy-hoovering true crime bio-drama “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” purchased the rustic-modern Melinda Gray-designed domicile in February 2007 for $4.3 million.
Listing details show the rustic-modern residence, aptly described in a 2010 Architectural Digest article as a “three-story trapezoid of glass, steel, concrete and wood,” measures in at 5,126-square-feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a top-floor office/music studio. The voluminous, atrium-like open-plan living space at the heart of the house is divided and defined by an zigzagging, Escher-esque staircase. The living area is anchored by a steel-wrapped fireplace, the dining area features a built-in banquette designed to emulate a wave with a table fashioned from three surf boards and the open-concept kitchen has a luxury-meets-industrial mix of marble and stainless steel counter tops. Vast expanses of glass that disappear into the walls when pushed open and make for a smooth and seamless transition to the yard where multi-level concrete terraces surround a spa that waterfalls in to a long and thin swimming pool. Rather unusually for a house in southern California, the now former Morrow residence has a full basement in which there’s fitness room and plush, suede-lined screening room with tiered seating and state-of-the-art projection system.
