It’s no secret Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon has been on a long and drawn-out house hunt on the Westside of Los Angeles. Last year — so the scuttlebutt went — she and her talent-agent hubby, Jim Toth, were thisclose to buying a $20-ish million multi-acre estate on a little-known lane in an especially bucolic corner of fancy-pants Pacific Palisades. And in mid-2010, she actually bought a Mandeville Canyon fixer-upper from the ever-wacky actor-lawman Steven Seagal. The existing residence was razed, but Miz Witherspoon soon caught a classic case of the Celebrity Real Estate Fickle and sold the newly vacant 2.5+ acre spread in late 2012 to filmmakers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy.
We heard recently Miz Witherspoon is still peeping at private and pricey properties in the Palisades, and perhaps she’s found something to her liking, because she’s quietly made her longtime home in Brentwood available, with an asking price of $10.5 million.
An adjacent parcel, also owned by Witherspoon, can be had for another $3.5 million, and would bring the total size of the property to 1.3 acres. Privately set at the tail end of a quiet cul-de-sac in a discreet, guard-gated enclave, the three parcels that comprise the property were picked up between December 2003 and December 2013 for a combined total of just over $11 million, per property records.
Listing details show the walled, gated and vine-encrusted two-story, California Spanish-style casa has a guest-impressing double-height foyer with curvaceous stairway, formal living and dining rooms, and a cozy library. French doors in the eat-in kitchen and adjoining family room open to terraced lawns, spacious patios, an outdoor fireplace and a swimming pool and spa. The house’s five en-suite bedrooms include a star-worthy master suite complete with vaulted ceiling, fireplace, marble bathroom, two fitted walk-in closets and an attached room for a gym, office, yoga studio or whatever.
