YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Australian actress Rebel Wilson has upgraded her residential circumstances in Los Angeles with the $2.95 million purchase of a brand spanking new, never lived in residence on a perfectly lovely and centrally located if otherwise undistinguished bungalow-lined street in West Hollywood. Although this property gossip would perhaps less flatteringly identify it a vaguely Cape Cod/Colonial version of the scads of cookie cutter spec-built residences springing up like multimillion dollar weeds all over West Hollywood and other parts of Los Angeles, online listing details describe the house as a “Traditional masterpiece” with five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 4,409-square-feet.
The classically clapboard-sided residence opens to a grand, double-height entrance gallery where, just as in 18-year-old reality television personality and model Kylie Jenner’s recently acquired mansion in Hidden Hills, a climate controlled glass-fronted wine closet has been uncomfortably wedged up underneath the staircase. Frankly, this under-the-stairs booze storage trend in home design is one we could gripe about ad infinitum and would prefer go the way of the Dodo Bird but let’s just leave it at that for now, shall we? Anyhoodles, poodles, the long and slightly slim seeming adjoining combination living and dining room has deliciously extra-wide plank wood floors, a gas fireplace, a couple of sets of French doors, and loads of custom mill work and moldings. Open plan living spaces at the rear of the main floor include a coffer-ceilinged family room with fireplace, an informal dining area set into a windowed bay, and a spacious and expensively outfitted kitchen with double wide island, all the customary top-quality appliances expected in a newly built $3 million home in Los Angeles, and a walk-in pantry behind a frosted glass door conveniently marked “pantry” just in case Miss Wilson forgets where it is. A small room with attached bathroom the main floor might well be employed as an office or staff bedroom and upstairs there are three more guest bedrooms, one with private en suite bath and two that share a Jack ‘n’ Jill style bathroom. The master suite, also upstairs, provides a vaulted ceiling, fireplace, and puny private terrace accessed through a bank of French doors. There’s also a “refreshment bar” with under-counter beverage fridge, two fitted walk-in closets, and a liberally windowed bathroom with double vanities, soaking tub and separate marble-lined multi-head shower. Multi-pane accordion fold doors in the family room open to a slim, stone tiled veranda that gives way to a compact backyard with plunge-sized saltwater swimming pool surrounded by a slender but lush strip of grass and a slightly elevated, tile-lined spa slammed up next to an outdoor fireplace.
Miss Wilson, who continues to own the privately situated split-level ranch style residence in a particularly celeb-packed pocket of the Hollywood Hills that she picked up not quite two years ago for $2.2 million, co-starred earlier this year in the bawdy rom-com “How To Be Single” as well as Sacha Baron Cohen’s box office mega-bomb “The Brothers Grimsby.” She will next be seen on the silver screen in the hopefully fabulous and fabulously high-camp comedy “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” and the zaftig star will reprise her role as Fat Amy in the third installment of the “Pitch Perfect” musical comedy franchise, due out in 2017.
