SELLER: Reba McEntire
LOCATION: Lebanon, TN
PRICE: $7,900,000
SIZE: 12,816 square feet, 7 bedrooms, 5 full and 2 half bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Almost a year after her by all accounts amicable divorce, country music star Reba McEntire hoisted her river-front estate and horse farm in Lebanon, TN, about 30 miles northeast of Nashville, up for sale at $7.9 million as was first revealed in The Tennessean. The equestrian estate, called Starstruck Farm, spans a tetch more than 83 acres with about 1,500 feet of frontage on a sweeping bend of the snaking Cumberland River and includes a three-story mansion described in marketing materials as a 12,816-square-foot “Southern Colonial” with seven bedrooms and five full and two half bathrooms. The listing was first sussed out by The Tennessean and later reported by the property gossips at Realtor.com.
The foyer has a tightly spindled and elegantly curved floating staircase and the spacious, open plan living spaces include a glass-walled and wall-to-wall carpeted combination living/dining room with stone fireplace, an adjoining billiard room with circular wet bar, and a expensively stocked kitchen that opens to a breakfast room that overlooks the swimming pool. The mansion also includes a temperature controlled walk-in wine room and a home theater with tiered seating for at least 12 movie watchers in bulky and unattractive but probably quite comfortable cream-colored leather movie recliners. A free-standing guesthouse cabana with full kitchen opens through a bank of glass doors on one side to the hourglass-shaped swimming pool and through another bank of glass doors on the opposite wall to a lighted tennis court surrounded by a practical but not particularly attractive chain link fence. The picturesque property’s extensive equestrian facilities include a couple of horse barns with 16 stalls, a dozen fenced paddocks, and both indoor and outdoor riding arenas.
Since early 2003, when they bought it for $9 million, Miz McEntire and her ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock, additionally maintained a 9,242-square-foot mansion with an approximately 2,000-square-foot pool house on 1.8 landscaped acres inside the guarded gates of the storied Beverly Park enclave in Los Angeles that they sold in June 2015 in an off-market deal for $22.5 million. The buyer, as we first learned from wickedly well-informed real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak, was medical education tycoon Yife Tien who must have caught a case of The Real Estate Fickle or, perhaps, saw an opportunity to pocket a few million dollars in profit and flipped the estate back on the market last month (August, 2016) with a substantially higher asking price of $29.995 million.
Miz McEntire, a country music mandarin sometimes called the “Queen of Country” — a designation to which die-hard Dolly Parton fans might take some umbrage, has recorded 26 studio albums that have produced 40 number one singles and sold more than 85 million records. Her scores of industry accolades include two Grammies, 7 Country Music Association Awards, 9 People’s Choice Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, and 14 American Music Awards. Along the way she found the time and energy to produce and star in the sitcoms “Reba” and “Malibu Country.”
