BUYER: Owen Wilson
LOCATION: Pacific Palisades, Calif.
PRICE: $1,524,000
SIZE: 1,522 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Bless her real estate heart, it was good ol’ Yolanda Yakketyyak who snitched to Your Mama that Oscar-nominated screenwriter and actor Owen Wilson quietly added a modest, if not exactly cheap house in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles to his already ample property portfolio.
Property records show the Marquez Knolls nabe property in question was purchased (via trust) for $1,524,000 million and listing details indicate the updated and upgraded 1940s, stucco-sided bungalow has three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,522 square feet.
The house sits high (and privately) atop a street-level two-car garage. It’s a long, glute-straining hike up from the driveway to the front entry and a spacious, mostly trellis-shaded deck nestled in the surrounding treetops. The tomato red front door opens directly into a small but airy living room with dark chocolate toned hardwood floors, vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, window-flanked fireplace and French doors that lead to the aforementioned deck. The adjoining dining room — flooded with natural light through a massive 20-pane window and painted a forceful shade of salmon in listing photographs — connects through to a sunroom, as per digital marketing materials, with backyard access through more French doors.
The efficient, galley-style kitchen looks to have been fairly recently fitted and kitted with white, Shaker-style cabinetry, marble counter tops, and higher-grade stainless steel appliances. At one end to there’s a bay window just barely big enough for a café table for two and at the other end is an laundry station that is, not-ideally, open to the kitchen. (Is it just Your Mama or are there others who prefer not to launder clothes in the same room they prepare food?)
Two small-ish secondary bedrooms—one with an unexpectedly delightful vaulted ceiling—share a compact hall bath and the fairy petite master suite has French doors, wood floors and an attached bathroom with curvaceous marble-topped vanity and sharply angled glass-enclosed shower stall.
The rear of the residence wraps around a Mexican paver tiled central courtyard the leads to a small but flat and grassy backyard where the non-famous sellers installed a super-sized jungle gym swing set contraption.
Mister Wilson already owns several (mostly) more luxurious homes in Los Angeles area so Your Mama thinks it’s probably pretty safe to assume this Pac Pal purchase was intended for staff or family use, as an investment or — maybe — to put up one of his two baby mommas.
Mister Wilson, not to be confused with his darker haired and also famous brother, Luke, has long maintained a double-lot spread in Santa Monica (CA). He bought the first of the pair of parcels in 2000 for $755,000 — the L.A. County Tax Man shows there’s a 2,792 square foot house with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms — and in late 2005 spent another $1.6 million to buy the house next door which he knocked down to make way for a larger yard.
Like many top-grade Hollywoodites, Mister Wilson also keeps a posh pad in Malibu where he custom-built a 6,000+ square foot, eco-minded contemporary with tennis court and swimming pool on a 1.43-acre ocean view property in the Point Dume area. He picked up the property in July 2005 for $3,922,000.
Mister Wilson spends a fair amount of time on the North Shore of Hawaiian island of Maui where he sometimes plays poker with his bro-like pals Woody Harrelson and Willy Nelson. In late 2007 he snatched up a pair of side-by-side parcels — one of them ocean fronting — that combined cost him, according to The Bizzy Boys at Celebrity Address Aerial, 5.85 million kahunas.
In late 2012 Mister Wilson quietly acquired another humble if hardly inexpensive home on a leafy street in L.A.’s Westdale-Trousdale neighborhood for $1.235 million. Listing details from the time of the sale show the 1,980 square foot house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. (Iffin Your Mama was the betting type — and we’re not, we’d wager both our long-bodied bitches, Linda and Beverly, this house was bought for his first baby momma’s. But what do we know, right?)
Celebrity Sibling Real Estate Tidbit: Mister Wilson’s younger brother, Luke Wilson, also owns a two-residence mini-compound in Santa Monica. The larger of the two houses—1,813 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms as per the L.A. County Assessor—was purchased in July 2002 for $1.43 million and the neighboring abode—two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,585 square feet as per the Tax Man—in August 2006 for $2.65 million.
