SELLER: Orlando Bloom
LOCATION: New York City, NY
PRICE: $5,495,000
SIZE: 2,452 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: As we first heard from the friendly folk at 6sqft, Orlando Bloom has caught and severe case of the Celebrity Real Estate Fickle, having this week flipped his newly acquired lower Manhattan condo-loft on the market with an asking price of $5,495,000.
More committed celebrity real estate watchers will remember the English actor, best known perhaps for a lucrative slew of roles in a couple of tremendously successful fantasy/sci-fi franchises (“Pirates of the Caribbean” and
“The Lord of the Rings”), only purchased the 2,452-square-foot fourth floor spread, per property records, about five months ago for $4.75 million.
As far as this boozy but not blind property gossip can surmise, Mister Bloom made minimal alterations to the apartment. Indeed, as far as we can tell, he only added a floating wall in the master bedroom to create a dressing area outside the walk-in closet, so we’re not sure exactly what criteria was crunched to come up with a $745,000 increase in assumed value that’s reflected in the current asking price.
Anyhoodles, setting the question of value aside — it’s worth what the market will bear — current online marketing materials show the corner condo has three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and a desirable laundry closet unfortunately located in a public spot between the foyer, open central kitchen and 48-foot long and 26-foot wide main living space.
Located in a 10-unit, red brick Neo-Greco-style boutique building, a former sugar warehouse that dates back to 1882, the ruggedly luxe unit mixes modern amenities — i.e., a cook’s kitchen — with a plethora of architectural details much coveted by loft lovers: hardwood floors, (eight) cast iron columns, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam and steel strapped ceiling, and (eleven) over-sized wood framed windows with sunny south and east aspects.
Your Mama can’t help but wonder without any sort of inside intel whatsoever if Mister Bloom’s decision to dump his loft has anything to do with his upstairs neighbor, New York City tourism ambassador Taylor Swift, who in March 2014 paid “Lord of the Rings” filmmaker Peter Jackson $19.5 million for a mansion-sized, 8,000-plus-square-foot duplex penthouse.
Mister Bloom previously owned a gated and privately situated home in L.A.’s star-studded Outpost Estates ‘hood that he bought in early 2007 for $2.75 million and sold in April 2014 for $3.9 million. It was his Outpost Estates home that was burglarized in 2009 by the so-called Bling Ring, that roving, tabloid-famous band of silly suburban teen hooligans who burglarized the homes of a slew of famous people and about whom Sofia Coppola made a movie in 2013. But we digress…
