Commune-raised Canadian actress Molly Parker, nominated for a 2016 Emmy for her role as ruthlessly ambitious Congresswoman Jackie Sharp on “House of Cards,” has listed her cute-as-a-button 1920s Spanish-style bungalow perched above the street in L.A.’s hipster-chic and increasingly expensive Echo Park area for a whisper less than $900,000.
The former “Deadwood” actress, set to appear in “Lost in Space,” a reprise of the 1960s TV series of the same name, purchased the approximately 1,300-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow in 2004 for just a smidgen less than $580,000.
It’s a considerable hike from the detached street-level one-car garage past a terraced and landscaped front garden to the itty-bitty porch and front door that opens directly into a wood-floored and cozily compact open-plan living and dining room with a contemporary wood-burning stove and built-in bookshelves.
The galley-style eat-in kitchen retains a distinct vintage vibe with a restored antique range and a mix of black-and-white ceramic tiles and butcher-block countertops.
The smaller bedroom has original casement windows with an over-the-treetops view. The master bedroom features built-in cabinetry next to a cushioned built-in banquette plus an adjoining dressing area that connects through to an unexpectedly spacious fitted walk-in closet and opens through French doors to a slender, awning-shaded deck that wraps around the front of the house.
The terraced backyard includes a patch of lawn, several raised-bed planters for growing herbs and vegetables, and a multilevel deck where a contemporary, shed-style cabana is suitable as an art studio, a meditation space or a rustic guest bedroom. Just a short hike from the dog-friendly trails of Elysian Park, the house is also spitting distance from Dodger Stadium.
