SELLER: Minnie Driver
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $1,495,000
SIZE: 3,055 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: London-born, Barbados-raised and L.A.-based film and television actress Minnie Driver recently dropped almost 2.5 million on a privately situated mini-estate on a celeb-lined street in the Hollywood Hills and, so the beaver busy property gossips at The L.A. Times first revealed, put her old house above Beachwood Canyon on the market for $1,495,000.
Property records suggest the Emmy, Golden Globe and Oscar-nominee, who just released her third album even though this Your Mama didn’t have an inkling she’s a singer and a songwriter, purchased the property in June 1998 for $775,000.
Current listing details show the 3,055-square-foot house three bedrooms and three exuberantly tiled bathrooms. It’s several steps down from the narrow entrance hall to a living room that features a wood beamed ceiling and a wood burning fireplace set between impractically shallow display niches. There’s an adjoining sun porch with sweeping mountain views and a formal dining room with an oddly textured ceiling and the exact sort of clay-colored floor tiles Your Mama might expect to in the kitchen of a greasy burger joint.
The decent-sized and reasonably well-equipped if somewhat outdated, all-white kitchen has black and white checkerboard flooring, a vintage range, prosaic white ceramic tile counter tops and a sun-splashed breakfast room with French doors that lead out to a curtained dining terrace with canyon views.
Outdoor spaces includes a gated, tiled and tree-shaded courtyard at the front of the house has an outdoor fireplace and built-in barbecue and, set well below the back of the house, another tree-shaded tiled terrace that all but hangs over the steep hillside.
As far as we know, in addition to her Hollywood Hills homes Miz Driver’s property portfolio still includes the “green-trimmed trailer, flanked by manicured white-rose bushes” in the historically bohemian, ever-more trendy and increasingly expensive —not to mention star-studded — Paradise Cove trailer park in Malibu where other past and present residents include Pamela Anderson, Matthew McConaughey, (model) Liberty Ross, Sam Peckinpah, late L.A. Times publisher Otis Chandler and “SpongeBob SquarePants “creator Stephen Hillenburg.
