Entertainment industry entrepreneur Mike Greenfeld — the co-founder and former CEO of Ant Farm, and the co-owner of several companies that provide post-production and sound services for the film, TV and advertising industries — listed his celeb-pedigreed estate in Encino with an asking price of $5.9 million. The classic, center hall Colonial, set well back from the street down a gated, brick-lined drive, was built in 1880, moved in 1912 from its original location in Los Angeles to its current site, and purchased by Greenfeld and his cantor wife, Judy, in 2002 from Motown mandarin Smokey Robinson.
The Greenfelds embarked on an extensive and no doubt expensive renovation and restoration that included the installation of all new systems, and the reproduction of original dentil moldings in the formal living and dining rooms. Listing details show the 6,556-square-foot home has five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, and includes an expansive master suite with two sitting rooms, two fireplaces, a steam-shower-equipped bathroom and a bedroom-sized walk-in closet with snazzy cheetah print wall-to-wall carpeting. Other features include a chef-friendly eat-in kitchen, a home theater, gym/dance studio, wine cellar, sauna and separate guest unit. The elaborate gardens and well-watered lawns are lined with perfectly clipped hedges, shaded with mature trees and decked out with a gazebo, swimming pool and spa, meditation garden and putting green.
Coincidentally, Robinson, still touring and recording in his mid-70s, has his current residence in a pricey, guard-gated enclave in Chatsworth, Calif., up for sale at just a grace note under $7 million. Robinson purchased the 2.55-acre estate — a few doors down from a similarly proportioned spread owned by Cedric the Entertainer — in June 2002, for $2.7 million, and current listing details show the turreted mansion has six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms in more than 9,000 square feet, plus another 2,000 square feet allotted to a self-contained guesthouse.
