It was ever-dogged celebrity real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak who first let the cat out of the proverbial bag — and property records do indeed confirm — it was Amblin Partners (formerly DreamWorks) CEO Michael Wright who slapped down $4.8 million for a Vince Vaughn’s Colonial residence in L.A.’s affluent and as yet largely uncelebrified community of La Canada-Flintridge.
Vaughn purchased the property in April 2013 for a bit more than $3.9 million, gave it a thorough cosmetic refresh, and put it up for sale in August 2015 at a hair under $5.3 million. Listing details show the classically clapboard-sided dwelling sits on about three-quarters of an acre, with five en suite bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms in close to 5,600 square feet. Formal living and dining rooms flank a double-height center hall foyer with a prom-picture worthy curved staircase and are joined by a petite and completely paneled library. A marble-countered kitchen with breakfast area adjoins a family room with fireplace and French doors to a trellis-shaded terrace that overlooks a pancake-flat backyard composed of a broad and thirsty expanse of lawn, saltwater swimming pool and a sports court.
Wright didn’t have far to schlep his belongings, as he previously owned a substantially smaller and less stately ranch-style home just one block away that was sold, according to property records, just a few weeks ago for a scosh less than $3 million. As for Vaughn, he’s a property gossip-column regular who owns a 7,300-square-foot house in Manhattan Beach bought in early 2014 for almost $6.5 million, a 12,000-square-foot triplex penthouse in Chicago he’s unsuccessfully had on and off the market for years — it was most recently available on the open market last year at $13.9 million, and a gated residence in the Hollywood Hills he picked up in 2014 for $2.375 million from Kate Bosworth and set out for lease earlier this year at $12,500 per month.
