YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Word out of the New York City property gossip columns this week is that deservedly lauded, effortlessly sassy and always deeply faux-bronzed American fashion designer and former “Project Runway” judge Michael Kors is all set to spend somewhere between seventeen and $21,000,000 for a penthouse at the new yet completed, LEED certified Greenwich Lane complex that occupies the site of the illustrious St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City’s über-gentrified West Village.
Details were few in the New York Post, which noted the penthouse in question has three bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen and a private rooftop terrace with views of the Empire State Building. Your Mama’s thorough but entirely unscientific digital research only turned up just one penthouse in the complex that matches that description: a 4,636 square foot, full-floor sprawler with a fifty-ish-foot-long living/dining room, an eat-in kitchen, a 799-square-foot private roof terrace and an asking price of $18,750,000. Of course, children, not every penthouse in the complex may be publicly listed online so the listing we turned up may or may not be for the penthouse Mister Kors and his former intern turned husband, Lance LaPere, are said to be buying therefore the images and the floor plan we’ve included here are merely to give the children an idea of what the penthouse might be like.
The Misters Kors currently reside in a 2,200-square-foot, terraced West Village apartment they bought from lefty liberal political pundit John Stewart in November 2005 for $3,995,000 and had re-worked by award-winning architect-trained interior designer Glenn Gisler. The globe-trotting couple also own an oceanfront compound in the secluded Water Island section of Fire Island that Mister Kors picked up in 2001 for $950,000 and property records show that in late 2013 the pair quietly, via LLC, shelled out $6 million for two, side-by-side vacant gulf front lots on Florida’s Longboat Key, near Sarasota where they plan to erect a 6,138-square-foot getaway with media room, yoga studio and four bedrooms plus a two-bedroom staff suite.
