YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Since, in Instagram parlance, it’s “Throw Back Thursday,” Your Mama decided we’d dig in to our previously unreported archives for a little look-see at the Los Angeles residence that — as we first heard from real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak and later got a second on the motion by our often in the know celebrity real estate informant Lucy Spillerguts — actor Max Greenfield and his wife, casting director Tess Sanchez, sold early this year for $1,687,500.
Property records indicate Mister Greenfield, who currently shakes his showbiz money-maker as a smarmy womanizer on the sitcom “New Girl,” acquired the modern-minded residence (via trust) in March 2012 for $1,020,000. A few clicks and clack on Your Mama’s bejeweled abacus suggests (but hardly proves) that, even with about two years carrying costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees, the lucky Greenfield-Sanchez’s likely made off with a few hundred grand in their pockets.
Listing details still available on the internets shows the single-story, Hancock Park-adjacent house was originally built in the mid-1920’s but has since been overhauled in to the warmly contemporary bungalow with three bedrooms and two bathrooms in a very cinematic-sounding 2,001 square feet. The combination living and dining room has (or had) honey blond wood floors, wood-framed windows, exposed wood support beams and a shallowly barrel-vaulted ceiling. A quick comparison of listing photos from the time of their purchase suggest the somewhat compact but well-equipped kitchen got a bit of a facelift by the Greenfield-Sanchezes and, at the time they sold, was outfitted with a built-in breakfast banquette, crisp but unassuming dove grey cabinetry, white solid surface counter tops and higher-end stainless steel appliances.
Listing details show there are (or were) two guest/family bedrooms — one with vaulted ceiling — that share a Jack ‘n’ Jill style bathroom and a somewhat unexpectedly roomy master bedroom has a wide wall of glass doors that open to the backyard, a sky-lit office nook with built-in desk and spacious bathroom with over-sized multi-head shower space with convenient integrated bench.
There isn’t a backyard swimming pool — which we thinks is kind of a bummer in a $1.7 million bungalow near Hancock Park — but listing details from the time of the sale do explain there is room for one. What there is (or was) in the backyard is a gated concrete parking pad along the side of the house, a flat, palm tree-dotted lawn and, at the very back the yard, a dining ramada with built-in bench seating and a detached pavilion perfect a home office, meditation retreat, reading lounge or whatever.
This property gossip has it on good authority — again from Yolanda and Lucy — that Mister Greenfield and Miz Sanchez schlepped their collection of colorful, low-profile furnishings and other personal belongings only about half a dozen blocks to a much larger and also fully modernized 3,659-square-foot 1950s ranch house in Hancock Park proper that property records show veteran showbiz executive and film, television and home video producer Scott Stone sold in January 2014 for $2.8 million. Coincidentally enough, Mister Stone’s house also does not (or did not) have a swimming pool.
