YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was our Dublin-based mate, Dr. Weezy Wantsyoutoknow, who first knocked Your Mama over the noggin with a digital shillelagh to let us know that legendary Irish silver screen legend Maureen O’Hara, now 94 and living near family in Boise, Idaho, put Lugdine Park, her long-time coastal home near the wee seaside village of Glengarriff in Ireland’s gloriously scenic County Cork, up for sale with a €2.3 million price tag. (According to Your Mama’s trusty currency conversion contraption that amounts to $2,908,860 and £1,813,990.)
Miz O’Hara, who can boast a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and long list of A-list co-stars like John Wayne and Tyrone Power, will next month receive an Honorary Academy Award for her 75-plus years in the business. She will be only the second actress besides Myrna Loy, to receive an Honorary Oscar for acting without ever having won or even being nominated previously.
The Irish Times reported that feisty and famously flame-haired Miz O’Hara purchased the approximately 35-acre coastal property with her third and late husband, aviation pioneer Charles Blair, in 1970. She lived there on and off until 2005 when she moved there full time — she decamped Ireland for Idaho in 2012 — and over the decades hosted many high-profile visitors including Ed Koch, the former mayor of New York City.
The property overlooks glassy Glengarriff Bay and claims a pair of small, undeveloped private islands and a sweeping view of the Cork and Kerry mountains. In addition to the woefully outdated and, well, musty-fusty looking main house of undetermined sized, the picturesque property includes a guest cottage, a block of outdoor changing rooms and a private bathing beach.
As far as we know Miz O’Hara hasn’t lived in Los Angeles half a century or more but the fine folk at Movieland Directory show that in her Tinseltown salad days — the 1940s through the 1960s — she occupied several houses in Bel Air’s swanky Stone Canyon.
