One of Los Angeles’ busiest and most influential property purveyors, Westside Estate Agency co-owner Kurt Rappaport, has his positively monumental, six-acre Malibu estate out for lease, with an epic asking price of $750,000 per month. No, puppies, that is not a typo; the requested rent really is three-quarters of a million smackers a month — which perhaps makes sense, since Rappaport presides over an often-in-flux portfolio of multimillion-dollar residences, and sold his Beverly Hills mansion in 2007 for $30.5 million to Tom Cruise.
The rental, a sod-roofed and art-filled residence, imposingly scaled yet discreetly tucked into a bluff with panoramic ocean and coastline views, was conceived and executed for the low-key but high-profile and — to be characteristically crass —clearly very rich Realtor by designer Scott Mitchell, and justifiably fawned over last year in Architectural Digest. In addition to a privately situated master suite, the approximately 22,000-square-foot spread includes a children’s bedroom wing, staff quarters and a detached pavilion with a pair of ocean-view guest suites, one of them hung with a series of Warhol prints. An entire wall of glass in the living room slips into rugged, exposed concrete walls, while the adjoining dining room is enlivened with a Damien Hirst spot painting. Indoor recreational spaces include a fitness room, game room and a professional screening room. Most rooms open to antique paver terraces that provide a patina of history and permanence, and give way to a broad expanse of lawn that dips gently toward a black-granite-tiled negative-edge swimming pool that, at an astonishing 168 feet long, stretches more than half the length of a football field.
Rappaport briefly owned a high-floor apartment at the heavily celebrified Sierra Towers building in West Hollywood, sold in an off-market deal in January for $3.5 million to renowned jewelry designer Loree Rodkin, and the following month, he shelled out $7.7 million for a beachfront house conveniently located directly below his bluff-top estate.
