YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Don’t ask Your Mama how she knows it but the inestimable real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak swears on her carefully catalogued collection of Cosmopolitan magazines that Linkin Park DJ, album cover artist and budding film director Joe Hahn and his wife, Heidi Woan, plunked down $3.825 million (via trust) for a spacious and well-appointed — if somewhat ordinary — ranch-style residence in the guard-gated and celebrity filled Hidden Hills community in L.A.’s far western suburbs.
Truth be told, Your Mama wouldn’t know a Linkin Park ditty if our life depended on it. We’re not hatin’, children, our musical tastes just don’t bend toward radio friendly hard rock. Never the less, last year the band was nominated by influential British music publication Kerrang! as the “Biggest Band on the Planet Right Now” and, if that’s not solid proof of the band’s international head-banging renown, they’ve peddled more than 60 million albums worldwide and have two Grammys to show for their music efforts. Anyways…
Listing details show the single-story sprawler in question sits on 1.31 flat acres and measures in at 5,832 square feet with five bedrooms and five “newer” bathrooms. In addition to a spacious living with exposed beam vaulted ceiling, the house includes a formal dining room just off the front hall entry, a high-quality kitchen with a boxcar-sized center island, a home office, a fitness room and a gymnasium-sized game room with surround sound system.
The back of the house opens up to huge terrace and lanai, a built-in barbecue set up and an expansive and well-watered lawn large enough to host a medium-sized croquet tournament. The grounds also include fruit and shade trees, rose and vegetable gardens, a built-in fire pit with wrap-around bench seating, a perfectly cute Cape Cod-style children’s playhouse and a horseshoe-shaped swimming pool with beach entry, spa and fountains
Last April Mister Hahn sold a very contemporary, 6,900-square-foot house in a six-home gated enclave in Brentwood for $4 million and, as it turns out, most of the other members of Linkin Park also have a real estate proclivity to fancy guard-gated communities: Mike Shinoda lives in a 7,600-square-foot mansion in the Mulholland Estates development that he picked up in late 2006 from comedian/actor Tom Arnold; Chester Bennington owns a 6,200-square-foot spread in a gated enclave in Gilbert, AZ; Dave Farrell owns a 7,000-square foot house in the gated Coto de Caza development made famous by “The Real Housewives of Orange County;” And Brad Delson owns homes in both The Summit in the Beverly Hills (Post Office) area —where Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale own an estate previously owned by Jennifer Lopez and hospitality impresario Sam Nazarian — and last year, so swears Yolanda, he quietly acquired a mock-Med in the celeb-friendly Serra Retreat in Malibu. Only Rob Bourdon, as far as we can tell, does not live in a gated community but rather in a very private gated and well-secured estate deep in a Brentwood canyon.
