YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Married Tinseltowners Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann have hoisted their comfortably deluxe oceanfront bolthole inside the hallowed gates of the fabled “Colony” enclave in Malibu, CA, up for sale on the open market with an asking price of $12,000,000. Property records and reports from the time show the showbiz power couple acquired the circa 1930s beachfront cottage not quite three years ago, in March 2013, for $10.825 million from the estate of late “Pretty Woman” and “Spider-Man” franchise producer Laura Ziskin. A gated and tree-shaded entrance courtyard wraps around a detached two car-garage as it makes its way to the main entrance of the two-story residence that current online marketing materials show has three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in 2,550-square-feet of space that “could have been plucked from the pages of Elle Décor.”
The Dutch style front door opens awkwardly and less than ideally directly into a combination kitchen and family room that spans the full width of the house. There’s a built-in media wall in the family room and the triple windowed kitchen features a contrasting mix of slab marble and butcher block counter tops, grey and white pixellated tile back splashes that extend all the way to the ceiling, and a full complement of upper-grade stainless steel appliances that include double under-counter ovens on either side of the stove top. The crisply beachy, white-painted wood floorboards in the kitchen/family room extend into a much larger, open plan main living space that encompasses a spacious dining area with white brick fireplace, an adjoining lounge area with another white brick fireplace, and a sun room lined with deep and cozy looking cushioned banquette. Upstairs, two en-suite guest/family bedrooms are joined by a master suite plenty large enough to accommodate a comfortable sitting area in front of a fireplace flanked by custom built-ins and an entire wall of windows and glass sliders opens the room to a huge private terrace with views that listing details say sweep from “Catalina to Point Dume.” A corkscrew staircase makes a convenient if dizzying spiral down to a bi-level deck that faces the Pacific Ocean and provides private access to the beach.
Commensurate with someone of his sprawling showbiz super-success, Mister Apatow maintains a small but still eye-popping portfolio of high dollar properties. His primary residence, acquired in July 2009 in an off-market deal for $18.25 million, is a three-quarter acre estate in Brentwood with a 10,341-square-foot main residence, a guest apartment, and a poolside pavilion with a state-of-the-art screening room. A couple of years ago real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak swore on a 10 kilo tin Beluga caviar that the Apatow-Manns had initiated construction on a custom-designed manse on a one-acre parcel that overlooks the posh Riviera Country Club in Santa Monica that they picked up ain June 2012 for $8.6 million and our research indicates they also maintain a 3,263-square-foot pied-a-terre with three bedrooms and three bathrooms in a former nursing home turned swanky boutique apartment house in New York City’s West Village that they quietly scooped up in April 2013 for $9,418,812.
Among his many money-making accomplishments, Mister Apatow has written, directed and/or (executive) produced a slew of silver screen comedies —“The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” and “Bridesmaids” among them — along with a number of television programs that include “Freaks and Geeks” and “Girls.” Miz Mann, who often pops up in her husband’s movies, appeared in the 2013 Sofia Coppola sleeper “The Bling Ring” and will co-star in the upcoming lonely hearts comedy “How to Be Single” with Dakota Johnson, Alison Brie and Rebel Wilson.
