SELLER: Jonah Hill
LOCATION: New York City, NY
PRICE: $3,500,000
SIZE: 2,000 square feet 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: The New York City property gossip columns were the first to go on about the lower Manhattan loft that Hollywood hot shot Jonah Hill re-listed with a new and lower asking price of $3.5 million.
The two-time Oscar nominee — “Moneyball” in 2011 and “Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013 — first and briefly had the handsomely furnished loft up for sale last August at $3.795 million before he took it off the sales market and made it available as a furnished rental at $14,000 per month. The rental price was quickly lowered to $12,000 and the photogenic apartment, located in a boutique-sized and quintessentially SoHo cast iron building, disappeared from the open market shortly before Thanksgiving.
Property records show the approximately 2,000-square-foot loft was purchased via trust in August 2012 for $2,647,450 and current listing details show the low-floor, floor-through loft has been thoroughly updated and modernized but retains a number of archetypal loft features. There are 13-foot ceilings, narrow gauge wood floors, exposed duct work for the air-conditioning, exposed brick walls painted white and a magnanimous, 56-foot long living/dining/lounge space with long and lively views down cobblestone paved Crosby Street. A compact kitchen — tucked under a stairwell were an especially tall person could easily clank their noggin on the angled ceiling if they inadvertently scoot too far to the right as they wait for water boil or stand vigil over a savory cheese soufflé in the range — is outfitted with matte black Shaker-style cabinetry, brass hardware and what appear to be medium grade stainless steel appliances.
The floor plan included with current online marketing materials shows the mostly open-plan apartment has one proper bedroom and two marble-laden bathrooms. An interior room, marked “sleep area” on the floor plan, does not have a window to the exterior or a closet so it’s not a legal bedroom but an open study/office niche at the front of the apartment, off the main living space, does have a closet and a window and could easily be closed up with the simple addition of a wall to make an actual — and legal — second bedroom.
Back on the Left Coast, Mister Hill continues to own a mid-century era micro-compound in a quiet cranny high above Laurel Canyon that he picked up in May 2010 for $1.865 million.
