SELLER: John Cusack
LOCATION: Malibu, CA
PRICE: $13.5 million
SIZE: 4,660 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: As we first heard from increasingly perspicacious celebrity real estate informant Ben A. Snitch, John Cusack hoisted his Spanish-style beach house along a sandy stretch of sand in Malibu, CA, up for sale at $13.5 million. The politically vocal veteran actor and producer, who along with sublimely talented novelist Arundhadi Roy met late last year in a Moscow hotel room with polemical political whistleblower Edward Snowden, stands to make himself a considerable fortune should he sell his house for anywhere near the current asking price as he purchased the property, according to property records and other online resources, in late 1999 for $2.1 million. (Our dear Mister Snitch, who knows a thing or two about the market, is of the mind that the understated and very desirably located house will sell quickly and close to asking. We shall see.)
Listing details show the 4,660-square-foot multi-level residence, entered through a walled, gated and trellis-shaded courtyard, has three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms plus a double-height living room with fireplace and an open kitchen. What listing details call a “Master level” encompasses a private balcony, office and master suite with over-sized bathroom laid with super shiny emerald-green floor tiles and outfitted with a two-person soaking tub set into a tiled arch. On the upper floor two potential bedrooms are used as a gym, according to listing descriptions, and the lowest level offers a dry sauna, full bathroom and direct access to the beach. Multiple sets of glass sliders open the living and dining areas to a house-wide, glass-railed and partly covered deck with coastline vistas and head-on horizon view over the ocean.
Our research suggests Mister Cusack continues to own a 4,371-square-foot, high-floor condominium in a swanky, 52-story high-rise in downtown Chicago he picked up in May 2005 for $2.876 million.
