We hear from high-powered Platinum Triangle real estate mover and shaker Rod Iron that Joel Silver has engaged the services of at least one preeminent property broker to covertly shop his oceanfront residence in Malibu, with a skin-blistering price tag of around $60 million. The famously flamboyant super-producer, renowned in Hollywood for eye-popping conspicuous consumption — his wife, Karyn, reportedly drives a customized Rolls Royce painted Laker purple — purchased the property, per records, in September 2003 for a tad less than $14.4 million from recently deceased “Rocky” franchise producer Robert Chartoff.
Plumly located on coveted Carbon Beach, and well known among celebs and other Hollywood insiders as the site of a star-studded annual Memorial Day beach bash, the two-story contemporary sits on an unusually generous parcel of nearly three-quarters of an acre, and measures in, per L.A. County tax records, at just under 5,900 square feet, with two bedrooms and five bathrooms. Privately placed behind a forbidding brick wall, the wood and glass house wraps around a lush courtyard, and opens at the rear to a vast red brick terrace with beachside swimming pool and one of the only two private tennis courts along that particularly jam-packed stretch of sand.
Silver, who produced the money-minting “Matrix” and “Lethal Weapon” series, and recently inked a multiyear first-look deal with Lionsgate TV for his Silver Pictures Television division, has long owned a Brentwood estate that spans some four fastidiously landscaped acres, with an eight-bedroom and 13-bathroom mansion of more than 22,000 square feet.
