Five-time Emmy-winning writer-producer Joe Keenan has sold his two-residence compound in the hills above Studio City, Calif., for $7.4 million. Property records indicate that Keenan — whose credits include “Frasier,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Glee,” and, currently, the Matthew Perry-starring reprise of “The Odd Couple” — purchased the larger of the estate’s homes in 1997 for $1.5 million, and about three years later shelled out $625,000 for the smaller house next door.
The main residence, a clapboard-clad Colonial originally built in the late 1930s, sits on a gated and exceptionally private promontory of not quite 1.5 acres, with tree-framed views that extend clear across the San Fernando Valley. It measures in at just under 5,300 square feet, per online marketing materials, with three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. There’s an elegantly proportioned living room with a fireplace, and a paneled dining room with a second fireplace, as well as a somewhat dated double-wide, galley-style kitchen and a family room with yet a third fireplace.
A double office and separate library share the upper level with the master suite, which decadently encompasses a window-lined bedroom with another fireplace, a morning bar, a haberdashery-style walk-in closet lined with glass-fronted wardrobes, and a huge bathroom handsomely fitted with burled-wood cabinetry reminiscent of a first-class ocean-liner cabin. The residence wraps around a tropically landscaped courtyard and a flagstone-paved lanai (with, of course, an outdoor fireplace) that gives way to thick expanses of lawn surrounded by mature plantings. The grounds also feature a raised-bed vegetable garden and a picturesque oval swimming pool.
The compound’s smaller residence sits behind gates on more than one-third of an acre, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms in just over 1,600 square feet, according to tax records.
