A 14-acre compound in a gated enclave above Malibu’s prestigious Point Dume has been sold by actor Joe Flanigan for $4.65 million, substantially below its last published asking price of nearly $6.5 million.* Best known for his role on the sci-fi cable series “Stargate: Atlantis,” Flanigan purchased the two-parcel spread with his now-estranged wife, actress/painter Katherine Kousi, in December 2006 for $3.68 million. The estate first appeared on the market in October of 2014 at $5.99, million but the price was almost immediately raised to just under $7 million before it was reduced by $500k. Property records show the discount buyers’ identity shielded behind an inscrutable corporate cover.
The main house comes in at a bit over 2,700 square feet, per listing details, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. A cavernous combination living/dining room with hand-finished wood ceiling is joined by a spacious skylit kitchen handsomely fitted with butcher-block countertops. Numerous stone terraces ring the residence, and a couple of studio-style structures are set side by side on a flat pad above the house and lap-lane swimming pool. Some of the neighboring estates are owned by Hollywood heavyweights Richard Appel and Marcy Carsey.
*New information has come to our attention that shows the two parcels that comprise the property in question were sold in two separate but contiguous transactions, one valued at $4.65 million and the other at $1.5 million. That means we got it wrong the first time around and the real and true sale price of the Flanigan compound was, as property records now reflect, $6.15 million.
