Your Mama Hears … from a well-connected mover and shaker who operates at the highest echelons of the Los Angeles real estate market that Hollywood royal
Marcy Carsey is quietly engaged in a very hush-hush, off-market deal to sell her multi-residence compound near Malibu’s Paradise Cove for somewhere in the neighborhood of $60 million. The (alleged) buyer: music industry mega-mogul Jimmy Iovine.
Property records indicate Miz Carsey and her late husband, John Carsey, acquired the oceanfront spread in the fall of 1995 for $10 million from Richard Gere. The two-parcel property spans just over four acres, and includes a large bluff-top main residence plus a trio of recently renovated structures sprinkled around a lagoon-style swimming pool.
Officially, property records don’t yet reflect a transfer of ownership of the property in question, so this is just some good ol’ fashioned, ultra-high-end real estate rumor and gossip. However, butter beans, when the deal gets recorded and subsequently reported in all the other property gossip columns, remember you heard the dirt here first.
In addition to the multi-structure compound Miz Carsey is rumored to be selling to Mister Iovine, she also owns a second, nearly five-acre bluff-top compound in Malibu — it’s next door to the one widely rumored and reported to have been sold by financier Howard Marks to athletic eyewear mogul Jim Jannard in 2013 for $74.5 million — as well as a gated and high-hedged compound-like estate in Brentwood.
Mister Iovine, who hauled in a fortune when he and Dr. Dre sold their Beats by Dre headphone brand to Apple for $3 billion-plus earlier this year, has long owned a 15,000-square-foot mansion on 1.76 uber-prime acres in L.A.’s hoity-toity Holmby Hills area that he purchased in 1998 for $7 million and — so we’ve been told by the sorts of people who know these things — recently had refreshed by showbiz tycoon-turned-high-end mansion renovator Sandy Gallin.
