Eagle-eyed celebrity real estate snitch Hal E. Wood sent word — and digital proof — via a characteristically cryptic communique that Jim Belushi has made his stately estate in the discreetly fashionable Brentwood Park ’hood in Los Angeles available off-market with a $42 million price tag. Property records aren’t completely clear, but as best as we can suss, the busy actor, musician and comedian — he has at least half a dozen projects in various stages of production — appears to have purchased the 1.3-acre property in 2007 for about $8.3 million. The estate’s Tuscan villa, which comes in at just under 12,000 square feet, with seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, was custom-designed for the “According to Jim” star, per online marketing materials, with “no expense spared” by upper-crust architecture firm Ferguson & Shamamian, and elegantly proportioned and comfortably sumptuous interiors created by acclaimed designer Michael Smith.
A stone-floored foyer has a sweeping curved staircase, and roomy formal living and dining rooms have hardwood floors, French doors, and Gothic tracery on the ceilings. The expensively stocked kitchen opens to a breakfast area and family room, and a lavishly finished basement offers a media lounge and a bar room lined with glass-fronted and temperature-controlled wine, booze and cigar storage cabinets. An outdoor living/dining terrace shaded by a vine-draped pergola overlooks expansive, resort-worthy grounds composed of immense lawns, picturesque rose and herb gardens, trellised walking paths, two outdoor fireplaces, an open-air poolside pavilion, and a two-room guesthouse atop a detached garage.
In addition to a second, smaller residence in Brentwood that came up for lease last year at $16,000 per month, the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member’s far-flung residential holdings include an 8.5-acre oceanfront getaway on Martha’s Vineyard that previously belonged to his late brother, John, and a 13-acre rural retreat near Eagle Point, Ore., where, as was chronicled last year on the reality series “Building Belushi,” he custom-built a rustic-luxe vacation cabin alongside the Rogue River.
