YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: The celebrity real estate snitches at The Wall Street Journal were the first to tattle that octogenarian diet queen Jenny Craig shed Rancho Paseana Farm, her 228-acre horse ranch in ritzy Rancho Santa Fe — about 20 miles north of San Diego, for $18 million to Bill and Melinda Gates who, apparently, have long enjoyed spending time in the San Diego area.
Miz Craig first hoisted the fully equipped equestrian oriented spread several years ago with an asking price of $29.95 million. The price eventually dropped to $24.995 million before it was taken off the open market. So the story goes, Miz Craig received numerous offers from buyers who wished to developed the prime and completely flat property but held out for someone who would maintain the property as a horse breeding, training and/or boarding facility. The property includes numerous barns stable blocks, an office and veterinarian suite, a guesthouse, a three-quarter mile racetrack, a small olive orchard and a seasonal stream.
In late 2010 Miz Craig put her 3.37-acre estate in Rancho Santa Fe up for sale with a nearly $9 million price tag and eventually sold it for $6.1 to — as it turns out — her daughter and son-and-law. In late July of this year (2014), the weight loss tycooness’s big and boxy beach front mansion in Del Mar popped up for sale with an asking price of $39.5 million and, as of this morning, the 8,000-ish-square foot beach house remains listed on the open market at the same price.
