Given that he’s currently in the electrified clutches of a white-hot Hollywood darlingdom, it’s really no surprise to this property gossip that unapologetically idiosyncratic, indie-oriented writer-director-producer-actor Jay Duplass (“Transparent,” “Togetherness” “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”) has, per property records, upgraded his residential situation with the $1.76 million acquisition of a dated but well-kept and dignified 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival-style residence in L.A.’s hipster-approved Eagle Rock ’hood.
Listing details show the newly minted Hollywood hot-shot’s freshly acquired domicile has half a dozen bedrooms and half as many bathrooms in just over 3,600 square feet. Main floor living spaces spoke off the original, magnesite-tiled foyer, and include a wood-beamed living room with white brick fireplace, a library/den with built-in bookshelves and a formal dining room with French doors that open to a wrought-iron enclosed loggia. A sizable master suite offers a private terrace, separate dressing room and a white ceramic-tiled bathroom that’s sadly — in our humble and entirely meaningless opinion — more outdated by the beige tiled-and-brass accented hall bathroom shared by the other upper-level guest/family bedrooms. Roomy, wrought-iron-railed red brick courtyards and terraces link the main house to a gated motor court with detached three-car garage, and step down to a concrete-surrounded swimming pool and cabana.
Just before Mister Duplass and every other Tinseltowner bounced off to Sundance last week — where he and his frequent collaborator, younger brother, Mark, and their producing partners, Adam and Naomi Scott, inked a $4 million distribution deal for a quirky sex comedy called “The Overnight” — he officially listed his old house, just off Eagle Rock’s rapidly gentrifying main shopping and dining drag, for $1.088 million. Property records reveal Mister Duplass purchased the 1920s-era bungalow in May 2008 for $785,000, and listing details show the cozily humble if hardly inexpensive 1,760-square-foot bungalow has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus a self-contained studio-style guesthouse.
