YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: “How I Met Your Mother” star Jason Segel must have really had a bee in his real estate bonnet about artist Shepard Fairey’s quirky house in the hills of Los Angeles’s Los Feliz area because, as was first revealed by the celebrity property gossips at Trulia, he shelled out $2.25 million for the multi-story Mediterranean villa, an astonishing $415,000 above its $1.835 million asking price.
The 2,523-square-foot residence, which this property gossip discussed back when it first popped up for sale in January (2016), was built in 1929, retains a number of vintage architectural details, and includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the main part of the house plus a guest or staff suite on the lowest level with attached bathroom and private entrance. Stairs lead from the house-wide terrace outside the guest space down, down, down to a lower, tree-shielded yard with a wee bit of lawn and a dining/lounging terrace with fire pit and outdoor bar area.
Mister Fairey, who became a household name when the now iconic Obama “Hope” poster went viral during the 2008 presidential campaign, purchased the hillside home in 2005 for $1.365 million and we assume he’s decamped to a far more contemporary micro-compound in the nearby Franklin Hills ‘hood property records show he acquired over the summer of 2015 for $2.541 million. As for Mister Segel, who will star as late writer David Foster Wallace in the upcoming biopic “The End of The Tour,” he continues to own a renovated 1930s cottage that he snapped up in February 2015 for $1.816 million and that listing details from the time of his purchase described as a “lush bohemian hideaway in the Hollywood Hills.” He previously owned a pair of side-by-side homes directly behind the Chateau Marmont Hotel — one he bought in May 2007 for $1.849 million and the other he picked up in March 2007 for $2.24 million — that property records show he quietly sold in an off-market deal in April 2015 to the same buyer for $6.9 million.
