SELLER: Ian Harding
LOCATION: Los Angeles CA
PRICE: $1,350,000
SIZE: 1,241 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Up and coming actor Ian Harding — he currently portrays a handsome and mysterious teacher turned coffee shop owner on the insanely popular and absurdly melodramatic teen-oriented series “Pretty Little Liars” — has his 1940s hillside bungalow in L.A.’s historically bohemian Laurel Canyon up for sale at $1,350,000. Young Mister Harding, the 28-year old Germany-born son of journalist and New York Times bestselling author Stephen Harding, acquired the two-parcel property just over two years ago for $718,000, according to property records, and current listing details show the modest if not exactly inexpensive abode has three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,241 square feet. A careful parse of marketing materials shows those figures are a tad bit if unintentionally misleading in that there are actually two attached but separate living spaces: an upper level main residence with two bedrooms and one bathroom and a studio-style unit on the lower level with another bathroom and kitchenette.
The house sits high above the street so it’s an arduous, booty-busting two-plus story climb past a tree-shaded entertainment terrace atop a street-level two-car garage to the main residence. The front door, set into a full wall of built-in bookshelves boldly painted cobalt blue, opens directly into a liberally windowed, 24-foot long combination living/dining room with hardwood floors, vaulted and beamed ceiling and tree house-like views into the surrounding tree-tops. Current digital listings we perused don’t include any photographs of the kitchen — it’s located through that kooky, brick-lined archway in the dining area — but listings we dug up from the time of Mister Harding’s purchase show that at the time he acquired the property it was fitted with terra cotta colored tile floors, olive green ceramic tile counter tops on honey-hued cabinets, a full collection of high-grade stainless steel appliances, and a stacked washer and dryer. Double glass doors open the kitchen to a tiny but convenient terrace and slender yard carved into the steep hillside behind the house. The undeniably compact bedrooms in the main house have pretty stingy closets but nicely vaulted ceilings and flank an almost comically puny bathroom with glass-enclosed corner shower stall while the studio-style unit on the lower floor has unexpectedly generous storage options plus a notably larger bathroom with subway tile lined tub/shower combination.
