Television writer/producer Hart Hanson — a veteran of the comedic-police-procedural genre who created the popular crime dramedy “Bones” — has added to his residential-property portfolio with the $2 million purchase of a California contemporary bungalow in the hipster-chic and ever-more-spendy (if still a bit seedy) beach community of Venice.
Completely hidden behind a tall wall, secured gates, and a towering line of trees and shrubbery, the stylish and humbly proportioned residence has three bedrooms — one custom-fitted with a built-in desk and storage cabinets — and two bathrooms in just over 1,200 square feet. An open-plan living and dining room with honey-toned hardwood floors spans the full width of the house, anchored at one end by a tile-faced fireplace.
The compact and efficiently arranged kitchen has navy custom cabinets, open shelving, and cream-colored countertops. A bank of glass doors in the dining area leads to a deck that overlooks a small, sun-dappled patch of grass. In fact, just about every room opens to a small deck or patio — one is surrounded by a riot of bamboo and bougainvillea; another boasts a cedar hot tub. A detached single-car garage has custom lighting and built-ins that make it suitable as an art studio or gym.
A careful comb-through of property-record databases indicates that Hanson and his wife, Brigitte Hanson, have lately been much in the mood to shuffle their real-estate holdings. In late 2015, they sold a 2.6-acre compound above Malibu’s La Costa beach for $4.5 million, and just a few months ago they unloaded a rustic ranch house in the scenic and remote mountains south of Carmel, Calif., for $1.17 million. They additionally own a small house dramatically sited near the edge of a precipitous, surf-pounded bluff in Big Sur that has 180-degree whitewater views up and down the rugged coastline. And then there are a couple of other residential properties in Venice, including a canal-front house they acquired just over a year ago for $3.5 million.
