When celebs and other super-pampered and financially fortunate sorts don’t have the time or inclination to organize their own closets, clean out the garage or figure out which kitchen drawer should be designated for the flatware, they call upon experienced clutter-conquering experts like Mary Astadourian and Jennifer Dynof of Details Organizing, who will find a place for everything, and create a meticulous photographic catalog of just where everything goes in case you — or the household staff — forget.
The women are scrupulously discreet about their high-profile clientele, but we did manage to get them to fess up that they did up the massive closet and dressing room at Kim Kardashian and Kanye Wests’ $20 million mansion in Hidden Hills. Oscar-nominated writer-producer-director Charles Shyer, whose silver screen credits include “Private Benjamin,” “Father of the Bride” and “Alfie,” recently hired the women to optimize the very narrow but unusually voluminous walk-in closet of his Bel-Air home. The woman installed adjustable shelves and hanging bars, added a slew of shoe racks and introduced a slender stack of dresser drawers and open storage cubes that reach nearly to the ceiling. And they made it all easily accessible with a handy-dandy rolling library ladder. Shyer was so blown away with the result, he says, “They’ve inspired me to reorganize my whole home.”
Astadourian and Dynof, whose services typically run from $20,000 to upwards of $100,000 for large projects, kindly offered some free advice to budget-conscious DIY closet organizers: Use uniform hangers to give the closet a clean, seamless look; hang men’s’ shirts by color, dark at the front to light at the back; and, since one’s day often begins and ends in the closet, add personal touches such as framed photos of friends and other loved ones.
