YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: With Memorial Day just around the corner and the abysmally traffic-choked Hamptons summer season just about to get in full swing, George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth put their Southampton estate up for grabs at $6.995 million, as was first noticed by the celebrity property gossips at Realtor.com. The approximately 4,800-square-foot shingled farmhouse-style residence, purchased by the Wentworth-Stephanopouloses in May 2013 for $4.5 million and described in current listing descriptions as “Elegant but not pretentious,” is privately positioned on 1.47 landscaped acres at the circular head of a long, gated and privet-lined drive at the tail end of a short cul-de-sac in the historic Art Village neighborhood.
In addition to a double-height entry painted the color of margarine, an also butter-colored and double-height living room with fireplace, and a formal dining room with fancy dentil ceiling moldings effectively dressed down with walls sheathed in humble grass cloth, the eat-in country kitchen features a pressed tin ceiling and marble counter tops and a roomy family room has a giant flat-screen TV mounted above the fireplace. There are a total of six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, including a ground floor guest or staff suite, a master suite, also on the main floor, with private adjoining study, and a trio of ample en-suite guest/family bedrooms on the upper floor, one that opens to a private terrace. The couple previously owned an 11-room house with five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms in the upscale Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. — bought in 2006 for $5.2 million and sold in 2010 for $5.45 million — and our research shows they continue to own a comfortably spacious but well shy of huge, full-floor co-operative style residence in an understated, full-service apartment house just a few steps more than a block from Central Park in particularly posh part of Manhattan’s Upper East Side that was acquired over the summer in 2010 for $6.5 million.
In addition to his role as ABC News’ Chief Anchor Mister Stephanopoulos also hosts the weekly political affairs gab fest “This Week” and co-anchors the less high-minded but much more widely watched morning chat show “Good Morning America” while Miz Wentworth, a comedian and author born to a politically connected Washington, D.C. family who made a showbiz name for herself on the 1990s sketch comedy series “In Living Color,” will star in the upcoming cable comedy series “Nightcap”.
