YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Yesterday we heard word from the folks at Trulia that Gary Sinise put his house in the guard-gated Oaks development in Calabasas, Calif., on the open market with an asking price of $3.895 million, and Your Mama’s subsequent research reveals the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning television and movie star (“Forrest Gump,” “Truman,” “George Wallace,” “CSI:NY”) already, surreptitiously and considerably upgraded his residential circumstances.
Property records show that almost a year ago Mister Sinise quietly and via trust made an under-the-radar $5.25 million purchase of a 9,400-square-foot mansion set on 28.81 hilltop acres in a swanky, guard-gated development in the affluent Santa Rosa Valley area in the foothills just south of Moorpark and a few miles due west of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
Digital marketing materials generously describe the property as an “estate of unrivaled luxury” and the two-story mansion as “incomparable” with a “grand foyer,” “Travertine marble floors,” “volume ceilings,” and “state of the art technology.” In addition to the six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms in the main house, the “resort size” grounds also include a poolside guesthouse of unknown size with an unknown number of bedrooms, bathrooms and/or other features. Outdoor amenities include numerous terraces and balconies with sweeping if not exactly spine-chilling valley views, vast lawns woven with concrete pathways, an “outdoor entertainment barbecue center,” a free-form swimming pool and spa, a fenced and lighted tennis court and “space for a helipad.”
The house Mister Sinise has up for sale in Calabasas at $3.85 million, which he bought in 2008 for $3.55 million, sits on a 0.41-acre view lot and measures in at 5,199 square feet with four bedrooms and five bathrooms.
