PRICE: $1.645 million
SIZE: 3,055 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It’s our understanding from good ol’ real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak that it’s serial house flipper Fred Durst who owns a three bedroom and three bathroom Hollywood Hills house that’s newly listed on the open market as a “Private celebrity retreat” at $1.645 million. The bushy-bearded Limp Bizkit frontman, who is not related to killer Robert Durst and who may or may not be semi-secretly married to his longtime significant other — Ukrainian born Kseniya Beryazina — purchased the 3,055-square-foot, 1920s hillside Spanish via trust only last December for $1.5 million from English-born film and television actress Minnie Driver.
Current listing details show a secured, camera watched, street-level gate next to a two-car garage opens to a covered exterior stairway that descends to a tree-shaded terra-cotta tiled courtyard with colorful, vintage tile-accented outdoor fireplace. An entrance hall steps down to a wood-floored living room with wood-beamed ceiling, wood-burning fireplace and French doors that connect through to a sun porch with panoramic canyon view. The just about nearly all-white, center-island kitchen appears well maintained and somewhat upgraded but, alas, still stuck in the 1990s with black and white checkerboard tile floor and white ceramic tile countertops along with a perfectly charming vintage range. A petite dining room accesses a trellis-surmounted terrace through more French doors, and it appears to this property gossip that the lone and unexpectedly ample bedroom on the house’s upper floor is used by Mister Durst as a jam room/recording studio. There are two more spacious en suite bedrooms on the lower level including a master with exuberantly colorful and arguably cacophonously tiled bathroom and a remarkably roomy and windowed walk-in closet and dressing area. The central stair hall on the lower level leads out to a small but desirably flat backyard with small grassy patch and multi-level terraces.
Though he’s been notably absent from the scene for the last five or six years, there was a time not so long ago when Mister Durst was a property gossip column stalwart who’s bought and sold homes across L.A., from sedate Brentwood to the celeb-favored Outpost Estate neighborhood in the foothills above Hollywood, and although he does not always buy from or sell to other showbizzy types, he does seem to have a proclivity for properties touched by the glitter of celebrity. In 2001 the metal-minded musician sold for $2.3 million a four-bedroom mock-Med residence the famed Bird Streets that since 2004 has been owned by media mogul Byron Allen who, as it turns out, has it on the market at just under $8 million. In April 2003 Durst sold a privately situated house above the Sunset Strip to television writer-producer Greg Berlanti — who sold it last year for $2.45 million — and in the spring of 2006 Durst sold a circa-1916 clapboard-sided traditional near the base of Nichols Canyon for $2.25 million to actor Adam Brody who, in turn, sold it at a substantial loss in early 2011 for $1.85 million to in-demand film and television star Amanda Seyfried.
