YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Two of Hollywood’s most prolific and powerful producers, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, have officially hoisted their hacienda-style residence near the mouth of L.A.’s bucolically swank Mandeville Canyon up for sale on the open market with an asking price of $9.9 million. Property records indicate the beaver busy couple — together they have more than a dozen Oscar nominations and more than 20 projects in various stages of production — purchased the 0.62-acre property just over two years ago, in April 2013, for $7.5 million and current listing details peg the impeccably maintained single-story, circa 1950s residence at 5,924 square feet with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and at least half of a dozen indoor and outdoor fireplaces.
Comfortably spacious formal living and dining rooms open to a lushly planted central courtyard decked out as an outdoor living room with an outdoor fireplace and our research reveals that among other upgrades and alterations the Kennedy-Marshalls installed a new kitchen with bone-toned Shaker-style cabinetry, slab stone countertops, high-grade stainless steel appliances, and a butcher block topped center work island. The adjoining family room has a built-in entertainment unit and a double wide bay window that opens to the central courtyard. At least one of the four guest/family bedrooms has a fireplace and the multi-room master suite has three: one in a private study/sitting room, one in the bedroom proper and a third one in the sky-lit bathroom that includes a glass-enclosed shower and a two-person soaking tub floated in the center of the room. The back of the house opens through a series of wood-framed glass doors to a lounging terrace that gives way to a sweep of lawn crossed by a flagstone path that leads to a dark-bottomed swimming pool. A poolside structure, per listing details, includes a convenient bathroom and a well-stocked, sky-lit fitness room with a kiva-style corner fireplace.
Starting in 2010 when they sold a humongous Gwathmey Siegal-designed mansion in Pacific Palisades for $26 million to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson the property mad pair have been property gossip column regulars. In 2012 they paid Reese Witherspoon $7.5 million for a 2.5-acre vacant parcel in Mandeville Canyon that was previously owned by Tom Selleck and Steven Seagal and that they sold less than two years later for $7.535 million. Earlier this year they shelled out $9.75 million for a hilltop contemporary with panoramic views above Malibu’s Carbon Beach and just last month they shelled out $14.925 million for a sprawling, 7,085-square-foot hacienda-style residence on nearly four acres tucked into the rustic rear of Sullivan Canyon that was the long-time home of the late, great Bea Arthur.
