SELLER: Eric Stonestreet
LOCATION: Studio City, CA
PRICE: $1,099,000
SIZE: 1,635 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Several kindly readers thoughtfully sent word by way of digital missives that a modest house on a lovely, tree-lined block in Studio City’s much coveted Silver Triangle neighborhood that is owned, per property records, but not actually occupied by “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet has come up for sale with an asking price of $1.099 million. The two-time Emmy winner, best known for his skillful portrayal of a gay man in “Modern Family” but is in real life, as he himself has described, “openly straight,” acquired the storybook bungalow in May 2008 for $750,000 and rented the house out for at least the last few years.
Current listing details show the 1,635-square-foot ranch-style bungalow, certainly charming enough with its caramel colored hardwood floors, white brick accents and diamond paned windows but so haphazardly furnished and “decorated” it leaves this property gossip grasping for the smelling salts, has just two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There’s a fireplace in the street-facing living room; the formal dining room, an interior room with no actual windows, is wrapped in wainscoting; and the galley kitchen is described in listing descriptions as “sun-drenched” but is otherwise perfectly quotidian with rental grade appliances. The kitchen opens at one end to a breakfast room and at the other to the backyard while the dining room links through to a family room — a potential third bedroom according to marketing materials — with fireplace and French door access to the backyard. A small, L-shaped deck outside the kitchen and family room steps down to a compact, tree-shaded brick terrace and detached two-car garage accessible from an alley.
Mister Stonestreet owns another similarly sized and equally humble home tucked behind a short wall and a tall hedge in the unsung, Studio City adjacent community of Valley Village that he picked up in late 2002 for $540,000. One has to assume that with his $10.5 million annual haul from “Modern Family” Mister Stonestreet will soon — that is if he hasn’t already — substantially upgrade his residential circumstances.
