YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Buckle your real estate safety belts, butter beans, because just this one’s gonna make y’all Monday morning jaws drop with real estate flabbergast.
Barely six months ago veteran chat show hostess Ellen DeGeneres and her recently rehabbed actress wife Portia De Rossi DeGeneres shelled out a bone-melting $39,888,000 for the downright fabulous A. Quincy Jones designed Brody House in L.A.’s Holmby Hills ‘hood.
Now, amid a flurry of cheating and divorce rumors, comes word via celebrity gossip juggernaut TMZ that the perennially peripatetic couple quietly flipped Brody House for an astonishing $55 million to billionaire Napster founder Sean Parker and his new wife Alexandra Lenas.* That’s right, kids, fifty-five million bucks.
So the story goes the De Rossi-DeGenereses weren’t actually looking to unload the Brody House but the Parkers just had to have the pedigreed property and the all-cash deal went down late last week after an ever-so-brief 8-day escrow.
The estate spans 2.22 acres and includes an 11,500+ square foot house with 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, a swimming pool, tennis court and extensive grounds.
In immediate need of a place, the women quickly spent about $16 million for a pair of adjacent condos that together measure more than 8,000 square feet and comprise a full floor at the super-luxe and newly erected 21-story (and 35-residence) Beverly West Residences that anchors the eastern terminus of the so-called Wilshire Corridor and overlooks the swanky L.A. Country Club.
Building amenities include a saltwater swimming pool and whirlpool spa, outdoor entertainment area with built-in barbecue, conference facility, fitness center with Pilates room, 24-7 staff services (valet, concierge, doorman) and all the security money can buy. That’s all well and good but we give the ladies nine months to a year before they pull out their checkbook and snap up another high-priced and high maintenance estate in one of the more expensive zip codes in L.A.
The Missus De Genereses still own a swank,9.9-acre spread with an 8,000-plus-square-foot, John Saladino-designed Italian villa in Montecito, Calif., they picked up in May 2013 for $26.5 million but who would be surprised if they sold that, too, right?
Even though he recently declared they don’t actually live there, Mister Parker continues to own Bacchus House, a six-story, turn-of-the-century townhouse in New York City’s West Village that he bought from Italian vermouth heir Enrico Marone Cinzano up in the last days of 2010 for $20,000,000. (He reportedly bunked at The Plaza Hotel for a couple years while the townhouse was being renovated.) He also owns a multi-million dollar home in San Francisco and, according to a 2011 report in Forbes, he owns (or owned) an 18-acre spread in Marin but honestly, children, we don’t know anything about that.
*For the record, Your Mama heard a few weeks ago that Mister Parker was thisclose to acquiring another property on one of the finer streets in Brentwood that we hear is being quietly shopped off market in the $30 million range.
