SELLER: Gene Stupnitsky
PRICE: $5.35 million
SIZE: 4,876 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 5 full and 2 half bathrooms (total)
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Cueball-headed veteran comedian and television regular Damon Wayans Sr., all set to star in the upcoming boob-toob series based on the “Lethal Weapon” action film franchise, has — as property records show and the fine folk at Trulia were kind enough to let us know — splashed out $5.35 million on a newly rehabbed compound on a leafy and pretty if not infrequently traffic-heavy street in the affluent heart of L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood. The eagle-eyed amongst us may recall that we first and briefly discussed the casually soignée, up-to-date estate in question in October 2015 when the seller, five-time Emmy nominated screenwriter-producer Gene Stupnitsky (“The Office,” “Bad Teacher,” “Hello Ladies”), first floated the gated and high-hedged spread as an off-market listing at $5.595 million. The 0.44-acre mid-block property later came for sale on the open market, in the early days of 2016, with a $5.495 million price tag.
Equipped with all new laminated windows, a comprehensive home automation system, integrated surround sound, and security cameras throughout, the stately but hardly humongous, late 1940s main residence, described in listing details as an “East Coast Traditional Paul Williams-style home remodeled for modern living,” measures in according the L.A. Tax man at around 3,700 square feet with four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. There’s a black honed marble fireplace in the formal living room, a bowed bay window in the dining room, a second fireplace in the family/media room, and an expensively equipped center-island kitchen with white ceramic tiled walls and a swanky imported range. An adjoining breakfast room has floor-to-ceiling built-ins and steel-framed glass doors that lead to the backyard. In addition to flat, grassy and well-watered front and back yards, the compound includes a black-bottom saline swimming pool and a pair of side-by-side secondary structures. A vine-encrusted poolside pavilion — set up as a gym, according to listings — provides a bathroom and outdoor shower space, and a detached two-car garage is topped by a lofty, studio-style apartment with complete, marble-countered kitchen and full bathroom that makes it suitable for loud-snoring overnight guests or live-in domestic staff.
Mister Wayans Sr., who last year infamously described the dozens of salacious sexual misconduct allegations leveled at Bill Cosby as a “money hustle” by “un-rapeable” women, has owned a number of multimillion-dollar homes in various Los Angeles communities including a Toluca Lake home sold in 2007 for $4.4 million. He currently owns a 3,093-square-foot two-bedroom and three-bathroom ocean-view condo in a luxury apartment tower in Santa Monica that he purchased in March 2005 for $3 million.
