Nothing smells or looks like showbiz success more than a second or third or even fourth, multimillion dollar home on the beach. Just ask Craig Ferguson. According to both real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak and always-on-the-money Lucy Spillerguts, the latenight talkshow veteran writer, producer and busy voice actor quietly, via a blind trust, shelled out $5.6 million for a well-maintained, if dated, oceanfront residence set cheek-to-jowl on a guard-gated street in Malibu.
Our research suggests the seller — Yolanda swears it to be an Arizona-based restaurateur — purchased the property only a year earlier for $4.47 million and, from what this real estate gossip can tell, made few if any cosmetic improvements before it was flipped to the Scottish-born show business polymath at a million dollar-plus profit.
The shingled, two-story residence — marketing materials somewhat generously describe it as “Cape Cod-inspired” — was originally built in the early 1970s, and spans almost 3,200 square feet, with rustic wide-plank wood floors throughout. There’s a wood-burning fireplace in the L-shaped combination living/dining room, along with several banks of glass sliders that open to a house-wide deck with 180-degree ocean and shoreline view.
In the spring of 2012, Mister Ferguson shelled out $4.1 million for a secluded, Craftsman-style compound in the Bronson Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills that listing details from the time of the transaction indicate encompasses four separate structures that come to 6,676 square feet, with a total of eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms. A year later, he sold a 1930s Mediterranean villa above Beachwood Canyon for $1.74 million to actor-comedian Chris D’Elia.
