YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A bungalow in West Hollywood’s Norma Triangle neighborhood, owned by veteran standup comedian Kathleen Madigan, has come up for sale at $1.349 million. The currently-on-tour comedienne purchased the pint-sized bungalow of formal but indeterminate architectural vernacular, per property records, in October 2010 for $973,500. Double glass doors open directly into a loft-like main living space that extends clear through to the rear of the residence. There are wood floors in the combination living/dining area that also includes a modern-minded mantel-free wood-burning fireplace and over-sized, eight-pane windows. A two-seat snack counter separates the dining area from the small but sleek kitchen where light grey solid surface countertops sit on chocolate brown Shaker-style cabinetry. Although we don’t care so much for the too-slick glass vent over the stovetop, the stainless steel appliances appear to be of higher than average grade and side-lit French doors provide convenient access to the yard. The small guest bedroom makes use of a white penny-tiled hall bathroom while the not much larger master bedroom has an en suite bathroom slathered in azure glass tiles and another set of side-lit French doors that open to the backyard. Being in the heart of a densely packed neighborhood, the hedge-girdled backyard is predictably puny — barely bigger than a large terrace, really — but squeezes in a dining table and a sun chaise or two along with a heated plunge pool. A detached, single-car garage is finished as additional living space with polished concrete floor and a stacked washer and dryer.
As best as we can tell, the famously scratchy voiced and cunningly lacerating comedian previously owned a nearly 1,900-square-foot home in a leafy, south-of-Ventura-Boulevard neighborhood in Encino that she picked up in October 2004 for $811,000 and sold in March 2009 for $826,000.
